PUEBLO, Colo. (October 16, 2015) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team earned its seventh shutout of the season Friday defeating Colorado School of Mines 1-0 on Parent's Day at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
Karley Whiteman (Fr., F, Alta Loma, Calif.) found the ball at her feet in the 70th minute, firing a shot past the goalkeeper breaking the scoreless affair.
It is the first collegiate goal for Whiteman.
Sandra Grimaldo (Jr., F, Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) was credited with the assist.
CSU-Pueblo opened the contest active on offense, taking possession deep in Oredigger territory, kicking four shots at goal in the first half.
The teams exchanged possession for much of the first half going scoreless into the break.
Colorado Mines held a 1-0 corner kick advantage.
The ThunderWolves battled a brisk wind in the second period, having to play defense with the breeze at the Orediggers back.
CSM outshot the Pack 12-6 in the contest along with a 3-1 corner kick lead.
Despite those numbers, CSU-Pueblo gained control inside the box midway through the final half, allowing Grimaldo and Whiteman to capitalize on the scoring chance.
Pack goalkeeper Alison Darr (Jr., Placerville, Calif.) notched the win, playing most of the second half at goal.
Prior to the match, CSU-Pueblo head coach Paul Regrutto and staff took a moment to recognize the parents, families and supporters of the ThunderWolves.
CSU-Pueblo (6-5-2, 2-3-1 RMAC) remains home Sunday with a match versus Colorado Christian University. The ThunderWolves will honor the four departing seniors who will play in the final home games for CSU-Pueblo. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
