ThunderWolves fight past Cowgirls

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 11, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team scored in the final minutes of regulation Sunday muscling past New Mexico Highlands University 1-0 at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.

Danelle Dondelinger (So., Mid., Louisville, Colo.) scored the game winner firing a ball off a corner kick and rebounded ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper for the 1-nil victory.

CSU-Pueblo had revenge on its mind in welcoming the Cowgirls; two weeks ago the Pack dropped a 3-2 decision in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowgirls' Mallory Bostic scored a hat trick in the win.

Sunday, the ThunderWolves defense played a strong game holding Highlands to nine shots and allowing zero corner kicks in the game.

Heading into halftime CSU-Pueblo outshot the visitors 7-4 while earning a 3-0 corner kicks lead.

Jessica Barton (Jr., Mid., Surprise, Ariz.) and Sandra Grimaldo (Jr., F, Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) each fired two shots in the half.

Entering the second half, CSU-Pueblo's offensive attack did not let up, managing two quick shots in the opening minutes and holding possession in Cowgirls territory.

CSU-Pueblo forward Shae McNutt (Jr., League City, Tex.) created chances at the net, striking three shots including one on goal.

Pack goalkeeper Ann-Marie O'Connell (Fr., Victorville, Calif.) notched the first win of her career at the net, making three saves in the game.

Earning a season-high eighth corner kick late in regulation, the ThunderWolves prevented the defense from clearing the attack, with the ball bouncing the Pack way at the feet of Dondelinger who fired her second shot in the contest securing the win.

CSU-Pueblo (5-5-2, 3-3-2 RMAC) will close out its home schedule next week as part of Parent's Weekend. Friday the ThunderWolves welcome No. 23 Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian University Sunday for Senior Day, both at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
