ThunderWolves escape with 67-66 victory at Black Hills State

SPEARFISH, S.D. (January 24, 2015) – Sophomore center Steven Radokovic (Belgrade, Serbia) scored the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team's final five points and capped a 13-3 run in the last 4:19 of play to help lift the ThunderWolves to a 67-66 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory at Black Hills State University, Saturday.

The ThunderWolves (12-7, 8-5 RMAC) hit on 13-of-30 attempts from 3-point range for a 43.3 percent. Black Hills State (6-14, 4-9 RMAC) shot 51.1 percent from the field, while the Pack shot 43.1 percent.

Junior Bronson Moton (Aurora, Colo.) and senior guard Jed Knafelc (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) hit five of the Pack's six 3-pointers and combined to score 23 of CSU-Pueblo 32 points in the second half to lead the ThunderWolves. Moton posted a game-high 22 points and added a team-best seven rebounds. Knafelc scored 17 points, which included five 3-pointers.

The ThunderWolevs knocked down five 3-pointers in the game's first 9:32 and led the Yellow Jackets 21-11. During the next four minutes of play the home team responded with a 14-3 run to own its first lead of the game, 25-24.

A Moton 3-pointer with 2:06 left in the half gave the Pack a 31-29 lead and started a 7-2 run to close the frame ahead 35-31.

The ThunderWolves had a lead as large as eight after a Knafelc 3-pointer with 17:21 left in the second half gave the Pack a 42-34 advantage.

Black Hills State continued to chip away at the deficit and with 10:13 left tied the game 52-52. The 3-pointer by the Yellow Jackets started an 11-2 run over six minutes of game time and saw the home team open a 63-54 lead.

Trying to avoid two losses on the road weekend, Knafelc knocked down a 3-pointer with 3:24 remaining and again with 1:53 showing on the game clock to move the Pack within two at 64-62.

Two free throws by the Yellow Jackets pushed the game back to a two possession game, but Radakovic's first points of the game came at a key time, as a 3-pointer from the big man with 1:24 left cut the deficit to two.

A missed jumper on the other end and a Moton rebound gave the Pack a chance at the lead. A missed layup seemed to be a lost opportunity, but a Radakovic rebound and put back gave with 19 seconds the ThunderWolevs a 67-66 lead that would hold to the final buzzer.

After going 2-2 on an RMAC road trip, CSU-Pueblo returns home Jan. 30-31 to battle New Mexico Highlands University and Western New Mexico University. Both contests are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Massari Arena.

Saturday, the ThunderWolves will celebrate the 2014 NCAA Division II Football National Champions football team at halftime of the men's game by unveiling of the National Championship Banner.
