CHADRON, Colo. (January 23, 2015) – A tough shooting night by Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team led to a 77-61 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road loss at Chadron State College Friday.
The ThunderWolves (11-7, 7-5 RMAC) shot only 40.4 percent from the floor and went 5-for-23 (21.7%) from 3-point range in the loss, while the Eagles (4-12, 3-9 RMAC) shot 50 percent from the floor and equaled the same mark from long range. CSC also dominated the paint, 32-20.
Senior Tyrone Marshall (C, Denver, Colo.) led the Pack with 16 points and a team-best six rebounds. He also added two blocks.
The ThunderWolves had a 4-3 lead in the first 1:32, but that would be the last lead by the Pack. The game was tied 14-14 with 11:13 remaining in the first half, but an 11-4 run by the Eagles gave the home team a 25-18 lead with 6:39 left.
Marshall scored three straight points to cap an 8-2 run and get the ThunderWolves within one at 27-26 with 2:31 showing on the clock, but the Pack would only muster one point the rest of the way to trail 31-27 at the break.
A 4-0 run to start the second half tied the game for the fourth and last time. Chadron State responded with a jumper and continued to hold small lead versus the Pack until opening an 11-point lead at 45-34 with 14:44 remaining.
The ThunderWolves cut the deficit to as little as seven, but that would be as close as they would get in the 16-point loss.
CSU-Pueblo looks to rebound Saturday at Black Hills State University beginning at 6 p.m.
