GOLDEN, Colo. - (GoThunderWolves.com - March 16, 2014) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball squad erupted for 20 runs in the two games played Sunday at the Colorado School of Mines Softball field, notching a 13-4 win in game one, followed with a 7-6 victory in the series finale over the host Orediggers.
In game one, after giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Pack used two big scoring innings to jump out to an 11-2 lead after only three innings. Starting pitcher for the Pack Kelli Henry (Jr., Monument, Colo.) held the Orediggers to only five hits and striking out four in the shortned 5-inning game, picking up her third win of the season.
In the final game of the series, the hit parade continued for the Pack as they collected 15 hits, while Colorado Mines gathered 14 hits for the game.
A rough first inning for Pack starting pitcher Madison Wolfe (So., Oxnard, Calif.), who allowed four runs on five hits in the inning, found the ThunderWolves quickly down 4-0 heading to the second.
Capitalizing on a throwing error by the third baseman combined with two hits got the ThunderWolves on the scoreboard at 4-1.
Scoring three runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings proved to be enough as the Pack held on for the 7-6 win. Wolfe improves her record to an impressive 6-1 on the season.
Leading the offensive attack for the Pack was the heart of the lineup, consisting of Alexa Snyder (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.), Dora Hernandez (So., Benton City, Wash.), and Ariel Lopez (Jr., Fontana, Calif.) who combined to go 11-for-23 in both games, each collecting three RBIs in the two games.
CSU-Pueblo (10-11, 7-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) will return home next weekend when they play host to a RMAC pod against Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands on Saturday and Sunday at the Rawlings Complex.
