Marshall's monster night lifts ThunderWolves to Senior Night win

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com – Mar. 1, 2014) — Tyrone Marshall (Jr., Denver, Colo.) made a living from the free throw line as he tallied a career-high 35 points to lead the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves to a hard-fought 84-76 win over visiting Regis University on Saturday Night here in Massari Arena.  Marshall went 17-for-21 from the free throw line and 9-for-13 from the field in the win, keyed by a 17-3 run over nearly 10 minutes of he second half.

Marshall also finished with 10 rebounds to tally a double-double as did Wendell Lee (Los Angeles, Calif.), one of the three Pack seniors honored during Senior Night festivities, held before the game.  Lee had 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  Senior point guard Nate Tigner (Fort Worth, Texas) also had a strong night with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting while recording nine assists and four steals.  Matt Rosenbaum (Sr., Sidney, Neb.) also added in three points in his final career home game.

The win allowed the Pack to improve to 15-11 overall and to 13-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, good enough to finish in a 3-way tie for fifth in the standings.  Winning tie-breakers over both Adams State and Colorado Christian, the Pack will be the No. 5 seed in next week's RMAC Shootout and will play at fourth-seeded Fort Lewis in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

CSU-Pueblo defeated the Skyhawks (17-9, 14-8 RMAC) both times during the regular season.

Marshall's whose previous career-high for points was 19, had 18 in the first half alone as the Rangers sent him to the line a dozen times in the opening 20 minutes.  CSU-Pueblo had a slight lead for much of that half until Jarrett Green made one of his five treys for the Rangers to trigger a 9-2 run that put the visitors up 28-26.

Green, who had 23 points overall, also scored another trey moments later as he scored 12 straight points for the visitors, who went into the break up 39-37.

Lee then hit a 3-pointer to begin the second half and drilled another with 14:33 left, a big shot in what was a strong defensive stretch that saw the Rangers manage just one bucket for more than 10 minutes.

Getting the job done at the offensive end, the ThunderWolves built a 67-54 lead with 6:16 to go and then held on although the Rangers did pull within six in the final minute.
