PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 14, 2014) - The ThunderWolves faced a test on Friday when the Fort Lewis Skyhawks came into the Massari Arena.
And they passed pretty easily.
After suffering a defeat at UC – Colorado Springs on Feb. 8, the Pack defeated the Skyhawks 71-55 on Friday, pulling within half game of the Skyhawks for fourth place in the RMAC and recording its first season sweep of the Skyhawks since 1999-2000.
"I think it was a great game for our kids. We were really disappointed with how we played at UCCS," said head coach Ralph Turner. "For us to play well tonight was important."
Although the ThunderWolves did not stand out shooting percentage wise vs. the Skyhawks, the Pack did out-rebound Fort Lewis by 17, getting 19 offensive rebounds total, which translated to 11 more shots on Friday night.
"I thought that was the key. We just kept getting second shots in the second half" Turner said. "I thought it was really a great team effort. I couldn't have been prouder of our kids."
The Pack finished the game with four starters in double digits, and fell one point shy of every starter reaching double digits on the night.
"We're a balanced team and I think that's one of our strengths," Turner said. "We've got a good collection of kids that play hard for each other."
Next up, the ThunderWolves will take on Adams State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Massari Arena.
"They go 10 or 11 deep, have great athletes, and they come at you in waves, four and five at a time. They play full court and it will be a very, very physical, tough game," Turner said.
