WICHITA FALLS, Texas (November 22, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team suffered a 68-57 loss at Midwestern State University, Sunday in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The ThunderWolves (3-2, 0-0 RMAC) shot poorly for the second straight game, as the Pack produced just a 28.6 percentage from the floor. CSU-Pueblo shot 33.3 percent from the field in a loss to West Texas A&M University Saturday. MSU (3-1, 0-0 Lone Star) shot 42.1 percent and dished out 18 assists, eight more than the Pack.
Senior center Tyrone Marshall (Denver, Colo.) recorded a team-high 13 points, while junior guard Rico Spikes (Merriville, Ind.) totaled 11 points and five rebounds.
It took 3:17 for the ThunderWolves to score, as a senior Devonte Malcom (G, Sierra Vista, Ariz. hit a three to cut the deficit to 6-3. The Pack then failed to score for another five minutes and by that point the squad trailed 13-4. CSU-Pueblo was down 19-4 with 9:51 remaining in the half.
The ThunderWolves got within seven at 21-14 with a Bronson Moton (Jr., F, Aurora, Colo.) layup, but faced a nine-point deficit at the half, 26-17. The Pack shot at just a 19.2 percent clip in the first 20 minutes.
The ThunderWolves posted a 5-0 run to start the second half to get within four at 26-22, then pushed the run to 14-5 to knot the contest at 31-31 with 15:45 showing on the game clock.
The Pack again went cold during the next 3:30 and allowed MSU to post a 7-0 run to take the 38-31 lead.
Spikes completed an old-fashioned 3-point play with 11:57 remaining in the game to cut the CSU-Pueblo deficit to four at 38-34, but that would be as close as the road team would get in the 11-point loss.
CSU-Pueblo has the holiday weekend off before beginning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Dec. 5-6 at home.
