Pack uses strong second half to down Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 28, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo scored 24 third-quarter points Saturday to run away from Adams State and record a 48-7 win on the road.

The ThunderWolves recovered from a down first half that saw the Pack record only seven total rushing yards and quarterback Chris Bonner (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) go a very average 9-for-22 with one interception.

The bright spot of the half was undoubtedly the team's first play, when Darius Allen (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) forced a fumble in the Adams State end zone, leading to a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Matt Tucker (Sr., Denver, Colo.) that put the Pack up 7-0 just 13 seconds into the game.

Despite that, times were tough for The ThunderWolves as they held a tenuous 17-7 lead at halftime and momentum seemed to be swinging in the home team's direction.

However, the ThunderWolves got the ball to start the second half and prompty put together a 9-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a Bonner touchdown pass to DeVaughn Thornton (Sr., Denver, Colo.) to five the Pack a 24-7 lead.

Two possessions later, the fumblerooski bug hit Adams State as C.J. Roberts (Jr., Boynton Beach, Fla.) stripped wide receiver Drew Edwards following a reception to give the Pack the ball with 7:01 left in the third quarter.

After a CSU-Pueblo field goal, Adams State fumbled on its first play, setting up a 5-play, 37-yard touchdown drive on a Chris Ashe (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) rushing score.

On the next possession, yet another fumble led to a CSU-Pueblo touchdown, and the Pack was up 41-7 by the end of the third quarter, putting the game comfortably at hand.

After the team logged just seven rushing yards in the first half, Cameron McDondle (So., Littleton, Colo.) rebounded to go for 126 yards and one touchdown.  Defensively, the stud was  Allen, who came away with eight tackles, four sacks (the second-most in CSU-Pueblo history), and a forced fumble.

The ThunderWolves will return home for its homecoming game next weekend when it hosts Fort Lewis at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.
