Women's soccer loses on the road to Colorado Mesa

Grand Junction, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept, 27, 2013) The Pack remains winless on the road, as the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves lost by a score of 2-0 to Colorado Mesa Friday night.

The match-up looked to be in the Pack's favor, as Mesa went into the game with a 1-5 record and no wins at home.  Though the ThunderWolves have struggled finding their groove away from home.

Samantha Lewis (Jr., Tuscon, Ariz.) started the offensive attack with a shot at the 18th minute just high off the net. At the 24th minute, Mesa midfielder Taylor Franklin scored a breakaway goal to put the Maverick's on the board first.

The Pack remained strong on offense with an improved passing game and increased scoring attempts that led to a three game high of 12 shots, four on goal, and the first time this season that the ThunderWolves outshot their opponent.

Megan Garcia (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Tamra Nee (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii) each had three shots on the night, with a team-high of eight players each with a shot or more.

The Maverick's scored again at the 63rd minute, when Mesa forward Ashley Wallace made a pass into the box to Veronica Rodriquez who took the shot to the left side of the net for a score. Putting the Maverick's up 2-0 and giving them the win.

"We created a lot of opportunities," said head coach Paul Regrutto.  "We maintained possession of the ball really well and had some good chances."

"The girls worked really hard, they played at a high-energy level," said Regrutto. "They made some great improvements to things we've been working on."

The women are now even on the season with a record of 3-3. They have yet to win a conference game this year.

The ThunderWolves will host (6-1) Fort Lewis Sunday at noon at the Rawlings Soccer Complex.
