PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - March 2, 2013) - The CSU-Pueblo softball team swept the Metro State Roadrunners Saturday afternoon at CSU-Pueblo, dominating both games with a 4-0 shutout win in the first game before mercy-ruling Metro in the second, 10-2.
One of the many Pack stars on the day was pitcher Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.). Bosio delivered a strong performance in the first game of the double-header from the circle. Pitching a complete game and allowing just 4 hits, Bosio had the Roadrunners on the ropes all game allowing the Pack to take the first game easily.
"Bosio is one of our big leaders and we have come to expect performances like that out of her." Head coach Christie Zinanti said. "When we get runs behind her, she is tough to beat for anyone we play."
Offensively, the Pack were led by catcher Courtney Fick (Jr., Romona, Calif.) who went 2-for-3 with a huge two-run double that gave Bosio all the cushion she needed on a day when one run would have sufficed.
Bosio had some help defensively to help secure the shutout from Lacey Chesser (Jr., Oxnard, Calif.), who made multiple great plays at third base that robbed the Roadrunners of at least two runs.
The second game of the day was even more dominant for the Pack. CSU-Pueblo ended the game early by being up eight runs after five innings. The Pack had a perfect combination of pitching and offense as they blitzed the Roadrunners.
The Pack once again helped their pitcher out by putting up an impressive five runs in the first to take a comfortable lead early.
The five runs was more than enough for pitcher Kelli Henry (So., Monument, Colo.) who gave up just two runs on six hits and recorded four strikeouts following up Bosio's strong pitching performance with a strong performance of her own.
After leading the Pack from the circle in the first game, in the second game Bosio led the Pack with her bat. Bosio went 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Samantha Avii (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) also had a strong performance, going 2-for-2 with three RBI as the Pack routed the Roadrunners 10-2.
"We had a good week of practice," Zinanti said. "High focus, high intensity, and we made some adjustments from last weekend that I think helped our bats come alive today."
The Saturday sweep moves the Pack to 3-2 in conference play and 6-4 overall.
The series concludes Sunday with another doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m.
