DURANGO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 11, 2013) - Having to wait all weekend to get games in didn't seem to hurt the CSU-Pueblo softball team against Fort Lewis. Behind powerful offensive outputs in each of their three games, the Pack took two games out of three against the Skyhawks in a tripleheader.
Game one saw plenty of offense from both teams as they combined for 23 runs in a 12-11 loss for the Pack. Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) added her second home run of the season in the first inning, sending a deep shot to centerfield to score Sidney Bailey (So., Pueblo, Colo.).
The Skyhawks would answer in the bottom half of the first with a grand slam by Kaylynn Harmon that trailed the left field line.
The Pack would explode again in the third inning, adding six more runs to take an 8-4 lead. After loading the bases, patience at the plate by Samantha Rios (Sr., Fullerton, Calif.) would be rewarded with an RBI after being walked. Bosio would hit an RBI single in the next at bat before a grand slam by Dora Hernandez (Fr., Benton City, Wash.) would clear the bases.
Fort Lewis would respond with four runs in both the fifth and sixth inning to capture a lead that would not be relinquished. The Pack would have a late rally cut short to lose the game 12-11.
Game two featured a strong performance from starting pitcher Kelli Henry (So., Monument, Colo.) that saw the Pack win 6-1. All but one run were scored on RBI singles, the other came on a bases loaded walk in the second inning. Each Pack started finished with at least one hit as the team scattered 14 totals hits in the game.
Game three also featured a strong, combined pitching effort from Bosio and Henry as they only surrendered three runs in a 10-3 victory.
The Pack wasted little time offensively as Ariel Lopez (Sr., Fontana, Calif.) hit an RBI single in the first to score Rios. The second inning produced a five run outburst beginning with a two RBI double by Alexa Snyder (So., Pueblo, Colo.). An error in the next at bat would help Carlie Lucas (Sr., Granada Hills, Calif.) reach and Reagan Best (Sr., Greeley, Colo.) to score.
Snyder would show off her lightning quick speed in a double steal attempt between her and Lucas when she swiped home from third.
Bosio would add her team-best third home run of the season on a two run shot center field in the fourth.
The Pack will return home for a Saturday/Sunday doubleheader against Black Hills State beginning at noon Saturday.
