SPEARFISH, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 22, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo scored four points Friday as the RMAC Indoor Championships got underway at Black Hills State University.
Holli Salazar (Sr., Hayden, Colo.) finished sixth in the weight throw, recording a 48 foot, 3-1/2 inch throw to score three points. The finish is on mark with her ranking coming into event, as her seed mark was the fifth-best among the entrants.
Nicole Hulet (Fr., Erie, Colo.) turned in a 4 foot, 11-1/2 inch high jump to finish eighth place, scoring one point. She entered with the sixth-best seed mark in the conference.
No other ThunderWolves managed to score points Friday as mostly field events, the pentathlon and prelims took place for sprint events. But the events the Pack lost out on were expected to be gimmes to rack up a few much-needed points.
One frustrating finish came in the long jump, where Alex Wendt (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who entered the meet with the fourth-best mark in the conference, could only produce a jump of 14 feet, 5-3/4 inches, more than three feet off her mark. She would finished in 19th place.
Andrea Tuck (Fr., Canon City, Colo.) finished in ninth-place in the prelims in the 60-meter hurdles, 0.15 seconds off her pace with a 9.52 second time, to narrowly miss the cut for the 60 hurdle finals Saturday. She entered the meet with the seventh-best seed time in the event.
Tuck also competed in her first indoor pentathlon as a collegiate athlete, scoring 3004 points to finish in 11th place.
Going into Saturday, two ThunderWolves, Wendt in the 60-meter and Sydni Riley (Fr., Florrisant, Colo.) in the 400-meter, qualified for the finals and are assured of scoring points toward the ThunderWolves' total.
Two more events that the Pack expects to finish highly in, the pole vault and the triple jump, are also slated for tomorrow.
