SAN ANGELO, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 16, 2013) - Coming off a tough loss to St. Mary's Friday night, the CSU-Pueblo softball team had a chance for redemption less than 24 hours after the first meeting. Unfortunately for the Pack the Rattlers stayed hot, winning 12-0 in the rematch.
St. Mary's received another quality start in the circle from their starting pitcher, this time at the hands of Crystal Keller. Keller completed the complete game, no-hitter by utilyzing groundball inducing pitches and a strong defense.
Offensively, the Rattlers clogged the bases with runners and used situational hitting to score runs. Pack pitchers combined to give up 10 hits and five walks in the game.
Likely bothered from the last two games, the Pack exploded in the second of their games Saturday, winning 10-0 over Texas-Permian Basin. The top of the lineup did most of the damage accounting for eight runs on nine hits in the game.
After going scoreless in the first two innings, the offense exploded in the next three. After a single by Alexa Snyder (So., Pueblo, Colo.) got her on base, Samantha Rios (Sr., Fullerton, Calif.) delivered an RBI single to drive in Snyder. Back-to-back doubles by Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Carlee Chain (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) would cap off the scoring in the third by the Pack to put them up 3-0.
The explosion continued in the fourth inning, as Sidney Bailey would deliver a kill shot with a two RBI double to bring in Snyder and Sianna Gomez (Fr., Glendale, Ariz.). Rios would deliver an encore shot in the very next bat as she would bring home Gomez with an RBI triple to right center. Bosio would end the inning with RBI single to left center to bring home Rios.
Bosio would add three more RBIs in her impressive day in the fourth with a double that broke the game wide open. She would finish the day going 3-for-4 with five RBIs and one run.
Defensively the Pack was stout, led by a solid outing by Kelli Henry (So., Monument, Colo.). Making her first start of the season, Henry was impressive as she shut down the Falcon lineup by allowing only two hits in the complete game win.
The ThunderWolves will play in one final game in the George McCorkle Classic Sunday at noon CST against fourth-ranked Angelo State.
