Pack pulls away from Western New Mexico to stay perfect

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 20, 2013) - Using a late flurry, CSU-Pueblo turned a deadlock game into a double-digit win, upending Western New Mexico 71-54.

With the victory, CSU-Pueblo remains perfect in conference play, improving to 5-0, and 8-3 overall.

The Pack encountered a very stubborn Western New Mexico squad that played the ThunderWolves close for a bulk of the game and even led for much of the first eight minutes of the game.

With the game deadlocked at 24-24 with 2:09 left, the Pack went on a half-ending 6-0 run, using three-pointers by Ana Gurau (So., Longmont, Colo.) and Jenay Locke (Sr., Gilbert, Ariz.) gave the Pack a 30-24 lead going into the break, a lead it would relinquish.

With Western New Mexico threatening in the second half, tying things up at 45-45 ten minutes into the half, CSU-Pueblo went on a 14-0 run that sealed the contest, using three three-pointers, two by Taylor Fox (Sr., Santa Cruz, Calif.), that put the Pack up 59-45 and on the road to victory.

CSU-Pueblo built the advantage by going 9-for-20 (45 percent) on three-point attempts in the game, including 5-for-7 in the second half.

The ThunderWolves were led by a double-double from Katie Nehf (Jr., Broomfield, Colo.), who had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and 17-point, 9-rebound night from Locke.

The ThunderWolves will go for its first 6-0 start in conference play since 1987-88 when it hosts New Mexico Highlands Saturday night.
