CANYON, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 30, 2013) - Plagued by a tenacious defensive performance by West Texas A&M, CSU-Pueblo couldn't keep up with the 21st-ranked Buffaloes Saturday, falling 88-57 in the finale of the West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic.
CSU-Pueblo only led for a grand total of 45 seconds in a game that the Buffaloes took over in the first half.
After CSU-Pueblo went up 6-4 to start the game, West Texas A&M uncorked a 9-0 run and never looked back. The ThunderWolves would get as close as 21-18 midway through the first half, but the Buffaloes outscored the Pack 29-13 in the final 10 minutes of the first half to carry a 50-31 lead into halftime.
The ThunderWolves were led by All-West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic team member, Taylor Fox (Sr., Santa Cruz, Calif.), who scored 18 points while guard Alex Evans (Sr., Louisville, Colo.) added 19 points to the cause.
But the big stat was on the glass as the Buffaloes outboarded the Pack 39-24. West Texas A&M was also solid setting up opportunities, turning in an astounging 27 team assists on 29 made field goals in the game.
CSU-Pueblo, now 3-3 on the young season, will begin its RMAC schedule next weekend when it travels to Adams State and Fort Lewis.
