CHADRON, Neb. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 25, 2013) - It has been a long time since the ThunderWolves men's basketball team recorded a win like it had Friday night.
In fact, the last time a ThunderWolf squad did what it did Friday night, defeating an opponent by 40 or more points as it scored an 87-47 win over Chadron State, most of the current ThunderWolves were barely in elementary school.
In short, it was a great night for CSU-Pueblo to keep up its push for a playoff spot.
The ThunderWolves trailed for a grand total of 1:08, opening up the game with an 8-0 advantage, and holding a solid, but flimsy, 36-27 lead over the Eagles at halftime.
It wasn't until the the second half that the ThunderWolves truly teed off. CSU-Pueblo started things off with a 30-10 spark in the second half, opening up the lead to a daunting 29 points and forcing the Eagles to simply go through the motions as it fell to 1-15 on the season.
CSU-Pueblo, meanwhile, displayed strong shooting, hitting 47.5 percent of its shots, relying on its effective three ball by hitting 12 treys. CSU-Pueblo also out-boarding the Eagles 39-28, gathering 14 assists to just five for the Eagles. Defensively, the Pack held the Eagles to just 27.7 percent shooting, as well.
Five ThunderWolves scored in double figures, led by Arden Dennis (Sr., Denver, Colo.) who contributed a game-high 16 points.
CSU-Pueblo will seek another win Saturday when it travels to Black Hills State to take on the Yellow Jackets for the first time in school history.
