PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 12, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo got the confidence boost it needed Saturday against Western State, playing one of its most complete games of the season as it rolled to a 67-43 win.
Coming off a lackluster performance Friday against Colorado Mesa, the ThunderWolves were solid during all 40 minutes, only trailing for one short span at the beginning of the game and never letting the Mountaineers build a lead of more than three.
After the game began neck-and-neck with Western State leading 15-14 eight minutes into the game, CSU-Pueblo went on a 10-2 run to jump out to a 25-16 lead, riding the advantage the rest of the way.
Midway through the second half, Western State looked like it would begin to threaten the Pack's lead when, trailing 50-38, CSU-Pueblo's Matt Rosenbaum (Jr., Sidney, Neb.) committed a technical foul that spurred the crowd to his defense. Instead of sparking a Western State run, it did the opposite. Travis Shepherd bricked both free throws following the technical, even airballing one, and as the crowd stepped up in response, so did the ThunderWolves.
CSU-Pueblo responded by going on a 10-0 run and closing out the game outscoring the Mountaineers 17-5.
CSU-Pueblo was led by Ryan Arel (Sr., Shawnee, Kan.), who scored 15 points with a career-high nine rebounds, and Wendell Lee (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.), who turned in his first 10-rebound game as a ThunderWolf.
CSU-Pueblo now goes on the road for a four-game trip, beginning at Colorado Christian Friday.
