Slow start dooms Pack against Cowgirls

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 28, 2012) - Starting slow can be a recipe for disaster and that was the case for the CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team Friday in a 3-0 loss to New Mexico Highlands.

The Cowgirls got off to a quick start offensively in the first half creating opportunities in the Pack's side of the field. The opportunities would finally pay dividends at 20:48 when the Cowgirls scored their first goal off a chance created by a corner kick. Autumn Woods would recover the free kick just outside the six yard box that she would finish with a direct right in front of the goal.

The Pack would again be hurt be on a cross at 29:43 when a ball delivered in from the right wing found Crystal Schuder. Schuder would have a prime chance as she recovered the driven kick just outside the six yard box to finish with her first goal of the season.

The offensive fury would continue when a foul was committed 20-yards from the goal to set up the Cowgirls leading goal-scorer, Kelsie Roberts. Roberts finished the play with a nicely placed shot to record her fourth goal of the season.

Being down three goals early, the Pack knew they would have to fight hard to close the deficit. Their grit and hard work showed in the second half as the offense began clicking forcing the host team to play their best defense. The Pack finished the game with seven shots.

Brittany Kliesen (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and Abigail Chris (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) paced the Pack with both players finishing with two shots a piece.

The team will look to shake off the loss as they have a quick turnaround to host rival UC-Colorado Springs, Sunday at noon.
