Pack suffers first loss of season to Dixie State

BILLINGS, Mont. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 24, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo was victimized by a second-half surge Saturday against Dixie State, playing catch up and falling to Red Storm 67-61.

The ThunderWolves saw a neck-and-neck game that was tied 32-32 at halftime get out of hand early in the second half as Dixie State ran the score up on the Pack and never looked back.

The Pack's cold streak started near the end of the first half, when, leading 32-25, Dixie State uncorked seven straight points to tie the game up.

They kept their momentum in the second half, scoring the first nine points to take a 41-32 lead.  All told, Dixie State went on a 16-0 run that was crippling to the ThunderWolves, and it wasn't until the final moments of the game that the Pack made it close.

After trailing by as much as 11, CSU-Pueblo went on a torrid 10-2 run in the game's final five minutes, turning a 60-49 deficit into a 62-59 game with 1:33 left.

But time simply ran out on the ThunderWolves as CSU-Pueblo was forced to foul its way back into a couple possessions and couldn't keep the Red Storm from racking up the charity buckets.

The loss didn't come without its highlights as senior Erica Hicks (Sr., Lakewood, Colo.) lit it up for a second straight night, scoring a career high 33 points - the most by a ThunderWolf since 2006 - shooting 13-for-24 and draining a career-high six threes.

CSU-Pueblo will return home to start its RMAC schedule next weekend, hosting Adams State Friday night and Fort Lewis Saturday at Massari Arena.  Tipoff for both games is 5:30 p.m.
