CANYON, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 23, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo had trouble stopping an Eastern New Mexico squad shooting over 50 percent Friday, falling 83-69 to the Greyhounds in its opening game of the West Texas A&M Classic.
The Pack could only shoot 36 percent from the floor, compared to nearly 53 percent by Eastern New Mexico, which helped the Greyhounds to mount an early lead that was nearly insurmountable.
After the game opened with a 9-9 tie over the first three minutes, the Greyhounds opened up a 13-2 run that put Eastern up 22-11. The Greyhounds would go by as much as 14, leading by 13 at half, 41-28, and leaving the Pack playing catchup for the rest of the game.
CSU-Pueblo tried to drain threes to get back into the game, and though it hit a respectable 31 percent of its attempts, sinking 10, another 23 rimmed out, giving the Greyhounds numerous chances. The Pack was out-rebounded 41-34 as well, forcing the numbers game to simply catch up to the ThunderWolves.
The Pack was led by Arden Dennis (Sr., Denver, Colo.), who had a game-high 17 points. Three other ThunderWolves also finished with double-digit scoring efforts.
CSU-Pueblo, now at 1-4 on the season, will get a crack at tourney host West Texas A&M for the second time this season Saturday night.
