Strong second half propels Roadrunners past Pack

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 5, 2012) - After putting together arguably their strongest half of the season, the Pack let up in the second half giving up four goals to fall to No. 16 Metro State.

In the first half, the Pack used pinpoint passing and an active midfield to keep the Roadrunners off balance. The plan helped limit any big offensive opportunities from Metro State as well as create chances offensively for the Pack.

The first half seemed to go as planned except for the loss of all-RMAC goalkeeper Savannah Thompson (Jr., Upland, Calif.), who was lost to injury at 19:37. The injury opened the door for Arianna Sisson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) a true freshmen seeing her first collegiate action.

Sisson played well in her first game making key stops when needed, while finishing with four saves in her debut.

Samantha Lewis (So., Tucson, Ariz.) was magnificent on the defensive end, showing why coach Cassidy has touted her as one of her top defenders. Lewis was able to blanket the Roadrunners top-scorer, Karisa Price, holding her to only four shots on goal.

Metro State was able to counter offensively in the second half scoring their first goal on a penalty kick.

They would add a goal just a minute later on a ball played from the back by Kelci Newlin. Farley was on the receiving end of the pass by Newlin as she finished the play to put the Roadrunners up 2-0.

With the wind blowing mercilessly throughout the game, the Roadrunners would add their third goal off of a corner kick that seemed to float in the wind before bending into the goal.

The Roadrunners would add one last goal on the day to give Metro State the 4-0 win.

The Pack will now play their next four games on the road beginning Sunday with a game at Colorado Mines. Kick off is scheduled for noon.
