DURANGO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 12, 2012) - As the season has progrossed for the CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team, it has shown that, despite their record, they are a team to be reckoned with. They proved this again Friday by pushing one of the conferenc's best teams, Fort Lewis, to the brink, losing 1-0 on the road.
Dirks Field has typically been one of the tougher venues to play for any team, but the Pack worked hard throughout the game to prove otherwise. They matched the Skyhawks offensively and defensively to keep the score knotted at 0-0 at the end of the first half.
As good as the Pack played in the first half, their play elevated in the second half, forcing Skyhawk goalkeeper Amanda Raso to make five saves.
The defense was also sound, led by Savannah Thompson (Jr., Upland, Calif.) who finished the game with nine saves.
Unfortunately for the Pack the game ended in heartbreak as the Skyhawks were able to score late in the second half. Laura Tita made a dash down the left side of the field before sending a cross into the box that was gathered by Megan Striedel. Striedel then sent a shot from to the far post to give the Skyhawks the game-winner.
Brittany Kliesen (So., Pueblo, Colo.) continued her strong play as she led the team in shots with two, both of which were on frame. Sarah Schorr (Fr., San Jose, Calif.) also chipped in with two shots to lead the Pack offensively.
The Pack will look to rebound when they are on the road Sunday to play rival UC-Colorado Springs. Kick off for the second half of the Silver and Steel Series is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
