DURANGO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 30, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo split a doubleheader with Fort Lewis Saturday, rebounding from a tough 12-11 defeat in the opener to clobber the Skyhawks in a run-rule win, 18-3, in the late game.
In the first game, CSU-Pueblo saw a 10-7 lead going into the bottom of the sixth break down after Fort Lewis scored five runs on five hits, though only one run was earned, as the Skyhawks surged to a 12-10 lead that all but sealed the game. Though a Marissa Cates (Fr., Murrieta, Calif.) home run brought the Pack within one, the ThunderWolves never made a credible threat to steal the game back in the top of the 7th inning.
To right their wrongs, the second game was all Pack. The star was undoubtedly Sarah Bosshart (Jr., Irvine, Calif.), who blasted a two-run homer in the top of the first to get the scoring started, and later fired a three-run bomb that was the cherry on the sundae in a nine-run fourth inning. All told, the ThunderWolves' 18 runs on 18 hits was its highest offensive output since hanging 22 on New Mexico Highlands in 2009.
With the split, the ThunderWolves are now a win or a Chadron State loss away from clinching an RMAC playoff spot for the sixth straight season. CSU-Pueblo will resume its series with Fort Lewis Sunday, with action beginning at 11 a.m.
