PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 19, 2011) - "Lose one, win one" has been the weekly occurrence for the ThunderWolves, and Saturday's doubleheader with Regis was no different as the Pack rebounded from a 7-1 defeat to win 6-1 in the late game and claim a doubleheader split.
The Pack was shut down in the first game by RMAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Bianca Holley, who held the Pack one run and improved to 9-3 on the season in the win.
The ThunderWolves' day, however, was defined by errors as three Pack errors in key situations set the Rangers up for the win. The key was a pair of flubs in a six-run sixth inning for Regis that effectively knocked the Pack out of contention for the win. Amazingly, starting pitcher Shannon Traxinger (Jr., Longmont, Colo.) allowed seven runs, but none were earned in the loss.
In the late game, the Pack pitchers against kept earned runs off the board, but this time around, no legit runs came behind the strong seven-hitter thrown by Marissa Reyes (Fr., Santa Paula, Calif.). Regis could only jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the second-inning, but by the bottom of the second, it was all ThunderWolves.
The Pack worked with bases loaded for a majority of the second inning, plating two runs, then putting it away in the fourth inning when Samantha Rios (So., Fullerton, Calif.) blasted a two-run shot, part of a three-run inning that lifted the Pack to a 5-1 lead.
CSU-Pueblo will now go for its first series win of the season Sunday when it faces down Regis for a double-dip at the Rawlings Sports Complex at 11 a.m.
