PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 5, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo gained vengeance for a 21-point loss in January, dominating UC-Colorado Springs in a "Steel and Silver Series" showdown Saturday, winning 75-59.
Relying on a powerful game from Rachel Espinoza (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), who scored 22 points and logged seven assists, as well as 10 three-pointers, including four by Erica Hicks (So., Lakewood, Colo.), the ThunderWolves led from the get-go and never relented.
After UCCS claimed its only lead - on the first bucket of the game - CSU-Pueblo went on a 7-0 run and began to rain threes. By the end of the first half, the ThunderWolves had thrown down seven threes, were shooting 58.6 percent from the field and had a remarkable 14 assists.
Though the Pack was temepered in the second half, with the Mountain Lions getting as close as 11 and not offering a credible comeback attempt.
CSU-Pueblo improves to 13-7 with the win and 10-6 in conference play, with a huge showdown on the road against Adams State and nationally-ranked Fort Lewis next weekend. The win also splits the season series with UCCS, which splits the women's basketball points in the "Steel and Silver Series".
