ThunderWolves tenacious under the basket in 37-point win.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 19, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo claimed its second straight win in dominant fashion Saturday, closing out its home schedule with an 86-49 win over Chadron State.
On the ThunderWolves' "Senior Night", in which outgoing seniors Amanda Bartlett (Sr., Kiowa, Colo.) and Rachel Espinoza (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) would make their final regular season appearances in front of the home crowd, it was the Pack's supporting cast that lit the court on fire.
Kendall Babler (Jr., Rifle, Colo.) put up 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while the eventual replacement for Espinoza, freshman Alex Evans (Fr., Louisville, Colo.) had her best collegiate game with a 13-point effort. Bartlett and Espinoza enjoyed their final home game waiting in the wings and creating opportunities, combining for eight assists.
The Pack took a 42-30 lead into halftime, and dominated the second half. They opened with a 10-2 beginning to the second frame, and eventually opened up their lead well into the 30s as Chadron State didn't hit a field goal over the final 7:28 of the game. The result was the Pack's largest margin of victory since February 2008 - during the freshman season of both Espinoza and Bartlett.
With the win, CSU-Pueblo's hopes for a home playoff game are still alive. They will need a pair of wins next weekend on the road when they tangle with Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian.
