Record crowd watches Pack corral Mustangs

CSU-Pueblo bounced back from Friday defeat, cruises to win.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 29, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo got a much-need respite Saturday night in front of the largest crowd in school history to watch a women's basketball game, cruising to a 67-43 win over Western New Mexico.

Despite playing even with the Mustangs early, the Pack closed the first half on a 21-4 run, taking a 36-16 lead into halftime.

The Pack kept building on that lead in the second half, scoring the half's first 13 points and going up by 32, 48-16.

During a 10:33 span from the first half to the second half where the Mustangs didn't hit a single field goal, CSU-Pueblo outscored the Mustangs 26-0.

A big reason for the Pack's win was the play of Rachel Espinoza (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), who had a game high 21 points and five assists.  Kendall Babler (Jr., Rifle, Colo.), put up eight assists and six rebounds, and Erica Hicks (So., Lakewood, Colo.) was a point away from her first career double-double, going for nine points and 10 rebounds.

CSU-Pueblo will next hit the court at home next Saturday when it hosts UC-Colorado Springs in a Steel and Silver Series showdown.
