ThunderWolves' win-streak ends in troubling fashion.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 28, 2011) - Needed a big win to keep a three-game win streak alive, CSU-Pueblo fell on their faces Friday night, shooting cold and turning the ball over as New Mexico Highlands took a 60-52 win.
The Pack turned the ball over 27 times and shot just 28 percent from the field as the Cowgirls' aggressive defense owned CSU-Pueblo all night long. Defensively, plays run to New Mexico Highlands' China Smith, who had 22 points, killed CSU-Pueblo, which fell behind early and never really recovered.
CSU-Pueblo couldn't take advantage of a seven-minute period in the first half where Highlands didn't score a field goal, shooting dead and never making up the Cowgirls' lead. The closest the Pack would get was a 29-all halftime stalemate that broke for the Cowgirls in the second half.
CSU-Pueblo got an 18-point effort from Kendall Babler (Jr., Rifle, Colo.), as well as a double-double from Rachel Espinoza (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), who had 11 points and 10 rebounds, but her night was soured by giving up nine turnovers.
The Pack will get a chance to move on from the loss Saturday when they host Western New Mexico.
