PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 4, 2010)
- The ThunderWolves had trouble with a tough Abilene
Christian team Saturday, falling 2-0 in the Pack's home opener.
CSU-Pueblo was outshot 22-11, but saw its top striker,
Katie Thiebaut (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), get plenty of
good looks at the goal, putting six shots on goal. While the
ThunderWolves struggled to find the back of the net, Abilene put
through two unassisted goals, the first coming in the 17th minute
by Andrea Carpenter, and the second in the 63rd minute by Julie
Coppedge.
Though the result wasn't what the Pack wanted, head coach Janet
Cassidy said the game offered a good opportunity to work out the
cobwebs before conference play begins Sept. 17. It provided
the team an opportunity to test its endurance, playing games on
consecutive days, a rarity in the collegiate schedule.
"There was effort throughout the game and we never gave up,
especially after playing a road game yesterday," Cassidy said.
"We learned a good lesson on pushing through fatigue.
"We just have to capitalize on the opportunities given to us."
"These early season games are great learning tools for when
conference play opens up."
The Pack will get a crack at a few more non-conference battles
before the games really begin to count - CSU-Pueblo will travel to
San Angelo, Tex. for the Angelo State Invitational Friday and
Sunday, facing Texas-Permian Basin and Angelo State.
