DENVER, Colo. - Pack hurler Justine Bosio
(So., Santa Barbara, Calif.) tossed a masterpiece
Thursday in the opening game of the 2010 RMAC Tournament vs.
Chadron State, allowing just three hits and notching her fourth
shutout of the season in a 6-0 win.
With the opening win, CSU-Pueblo enters the winners' bracket and
will play Regis tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at Regis University Field,
the secondary site of the 2010 RMAC Tournament, hosted by Metro
State College.
The Pack started quickly, plating two runs in the bottom of the
first inning. After a leadoff single by Kelly Purcell
(Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), a walk and an error loaded the
bases, and when Lacey Chesser
(Fr., Oxnard, Calif.) was hit by a pitch, the
ThunderWolves went up 1-0. The Pack's got its second run
across in equally unceremonious fashion, as a ground out by
Carlie
Lucas (So., Granada Hills, Calif.) put CSU-Pueblo up
2-0.
A ground out also recorded the Pack's third run, after a leadoff
triple by Dannielle Oliva (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) in
the second inning turned into a Samantha Rios
(Fr., Fullerton, Calif.) RBI on a groundout, putting the
Pack up 3-0.
It wasn't until the Pack went up 5-0 that they scored on a run
on a base hit, with Chesser lining a single to the left side,
scoring Purcell, in the 5th inning.
While the Pack offense held it down, Bosio mowed down Eagle
batters. Despite only getting one strikeout, she kept the
ball low, getting 15 groundball outs and not allowing a single
extra-base hit.
With the win, Bosio improves to an RMAC-best 20-8, making her
the ThunderWolves' first 20-game winner since Kerri Chase won 34 in
2001. Bosio becomes just the third ThunderWolf to win 20 or
more games in a season, again joining Chase, who won 21 in 2000, as
well.
Additionally, records were made by Purcell, who stole two bases,
giving her 28 on the season and breaking her own single-season
steal record of 26 set in 2009. Additionally, Purcell is just
four swipes away from tying the ThunderWolves' all-time career
stolen base mark of 68, set by 2009 grad, Janine Tyler.
