Western New Mexico 12, CSU-Pueblo 4
SILVER CITY, N.M. - CSU-Pueblo played itself to within one
win of its first ever RMAC West Division title Saturday, playing to
a split with Western New Mexico in the final regular season series
of the season.
The Pack rolled to a 14-6 win in the opening game before falling
12-4 in the nightcap. CSU-Pueblo is now 23-14 in RMAC play,
one full game ahead of Western New Mexico, at 21-14, in the RMAC
West Division standings. The Pack can seal the RMAC West
Division title with at least one win in Sunday's scheduled
doubleheader between these two teams, which would be
the program's first since the RMAC broke into divisions in
2008.
The Pack's win Saturday was keyed by a standout performance by
Justine Bosio
(So., Santa Barbara, Calif.), who earned her 19th win of
the season in the circle for the ThunderWolves, but also turned in
a 4-RBI, 3-for-4 performance with her bat, falling a triple short
of the cycle and firing a fourth-inning sole home run, as the Pack
eight-runned the Mustangs after five innings.
In the late game, Carlie Lucas (So.,
Granada Hills, Calif.) saw her 15-game hit streak come to
an end after an 0-for-2 performance in the ThunderWolves'
loss. Lucas' hit streak was the longest by a ThunderWolf
since 2006, when former RMAC Player of the Year, Shana Martin,
turned in a school-record 21-game hit streak. Lucas, whose
batting average was just .276 when her streak began, is now a
team-best .404.
The ThunderWolves will close out the de-facto RMAC West Division
Championship series with the Mustangs Sunday with a doubleheader at
11 a.m.
