ALAMOSA, Colo. - The ThunderWolves were on the wrong end of a
crucial triple-header with Adams State Wednesday, dropping a pair,
15-9 and 15-13, before salvaging a win with a 16-4 victory.
After losing two of three, the ThunderWolves hold a tenuous
one-game lead over Western New Mexico in the RMAC West Division
standings, heading into arguably the biggest regular-season series
in program history this weekend when the ThunderWolves take on
Western New Mexico in a four-game de-facto RMAC Championship series
in Silver City, N.M. Saturday and Sunday.
CSU-Pueblo softball pitcher Justine Bosio
(So., Santa Barbara, Calif.) suffered one of her worst
outings while with the Pack, surrendering 12 runs on 11 hits in
only three innings of work in game one, putting a dart in her 2.82
ERA, second in the RMAC. Bosio also had little help from her
defense as the Pack committed a season-high six errors in the
game. A late rally by the T-Wolves was too little too late as
they fell, 15-9.
In the second game Lacey Chesser
(Fr., Oxnard, Calif.) blasted her team-leading 10th home
run of the season in grand slam style and was later joined by a
grand salami by Annalyse Garcia (Fr., Frederick,
Colo.), lifting the Pack to what was at the time looked
like the game winner, the Pack leading 13-12 heading into the
bottom of the seventh inning. Pack starter Caitlyn
Wambeke (So., Arvada, Colo.) who had pitched thru some
tough situations was unable to hold the lead as the Grizzlies'
Jaycee Lovato homered to right field for the heartbreaking walk-off
loss for the Pack.
In the finale the Pack erupted with 9 runs on 8 hits in the
second inning as well as a 5-run fourth inning to make quick work
of the already tired Grizzlies and their pitching, winning 16-4 in
a 5-inning shortened game. Six Pack starters collected at least two
hits apiece with Bosio and Carlie Lucas (So.,
Granada Hills, Calif.) each going 3-for-4 in the
game. Bosio who started the final game of the triple header,
picked up the win, improving to 18-7 on the year.
Additionally, senior second baseman Kelly Purcell (Sr.,
Las Vegas, Nev.) scored a total of six runs in the
triple header, raising her to first all-time in CSU-Pueblo history
for runs scored. She now scored 148 runs at CSU-Pueblo, two
more than former teammate Janine Tyler, who had
146.
CSU-Pueblo (26-15, 22-13 RMAC) will have little time for rest as
they make the long trip to Silver City, N.M. to for a big RMAC
series with Western New Mexico. The ThunderWolves will need
at least a series split to claim the program's first-ever RMAC West
Division title. First pitch scheduled for a 12 p.m. start on
Saturday.
