Game 1: CSU-Pueblo 9, Chadron State 1 (6
innings)
Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 5, Chadron State 2
The ThunderWolves softball team remained hot while playing at home
with a doubleheader sweep of the Chadron State College
Eagles. In the opener, CSU-Pueblo sophomore pitcher
Justine Bosio (So., Santa Barbara, Calif.) pitched
one of her best collegiate games, allowing just one run on one hit,
the solo hit came in the top of the 3rd inning on a leadoff
homerun, the only blemish Bosio would allow all day. The offense
began early when Annalyse Garcia (Fr., Frederick,
Colo.) got a one-out base hit followed with an RBI-double
to right-centerfield for Bo Nuanez (Sr., Lafayette,
Colo.), scoring Garcia, with another base hit for an RBI
by Lacey Chesser (Fr., Oxnard, Calif.) giving the
Pack the early 2-0 lead. Gathering five more runs in the next
few innings the Pack headed into the bottom of the sixth with a 7-1
lead when Bosio blasted a one-out 2-run homerun to leftfield to
raise the Pack to the 8-run rule victory.
Game two starting pitcher Kyla Nelson (So., Lakewood,
Colo.) gave up three doubles and a base hit, was touted
with the two runs on four hits wit two walks. Nelson allowed
the first two batters to reach base and Bosio was called to come on
in relief, quickly shutting the Eagles down scattering three hits
in 5 innings of relief to pick up the win, improving to a RMAC best
15-4 on the year. With the two wins CSU-Pueblo improves to
22-10 and 18-8 in league play and will play host to
Nebraska-Kearney in a doubleheader Saturday, first pitch scheduled
for 2 pm.
Prior to the start of the doubleheader, CSU-Pueblo head softball
coach Shane Showalter was honored by the team and assistant coach
Stephanie Hughes for getting his 186th victory last Sunday as the
Pack head coach, which puts him atop the all-time wins list at
CSU-Pueblo. With todays victories, Showalter is at 188
victories.
