Game 1: Colorado Mines 4, CSU-Pueblo 2 (8 inn.)
Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 6, Colorado Mines 1
PUEBLO, Colo. - Behind its trademark strong pitching, CSU-Pueblo
captured a doubleheader split from Colorado School of Mines
Saturday, losing the opener 4-2 in extra innings before evening the
score with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.
The ThunderWolves again relied on their arms, allowing a grand
total of 11 Mines hits across 15 innings Saturday. The opener
was a heartbreaker for the ThunderWolves, falling short in an
exciting extra-inning dual.
In the top of the 6th inning, Colorado Mines broke open a
pitchers' dual between CSU-Pueblo's Kyla Nelson (Lakewood,
Colo.) and Oredigger hurler, Libby Balogh, scoring two
runs to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th.
But CSU-Pueblo responded as the first three batters reached on
base. Then senior Bo Nuanez (Sr., Lafayette,
Colo.) came through with a huge two-run single, tying
the game at two and essentially sending the game into extra
innings.
However, the Orediggers broke that tie with a two-run
eighth, handing the T-Wolves a heartbreaking loss.
In the back end of the doubleheader, CSU-Pueblo made sure
another close game would not occur, building a 3-0 lead after three
innings. Ashley Corrigan (Jr., Upland,
Calif.) drew first blood with an RBI double in the second
inning, while Dannielle Oliva (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.)
and Justine Bosio (So., Santa Barbara, Calif.)
came through with RBIs in the third inning.
Bosio took care of the rest herself in the circle, nearly
claiming her third straight complete-game shutout by five-hitting
the Orediggers, allowing just one run and striking out three.
She also added insurance with her bat in the 5th inning with an RBI
single, part of her 1-for-2 day at the plate, securing the win.
CSU-Pueblo, now 5-3 and 1-1 in RMAC play, will finish its series
with Mines with another doubleheader Sunday. First pitch is
at 11 a.m.
