ThunderWolves suffer sweep at hands of #8 Metro State

Game 1: No. 8 Metro State 1, CSU-Pueblo 0
Game 2: No. 8 Metro State 6, CSU-Pueblo 4

DENVER - CSU-Pueblo was the victim of a Metro State no-hitter then a walk-off home run Sunday, falling to a heartbreaking doubleheader sweep at the the hands of eighth-ranked Metro State Sunday.

Metro State ace Christie Robinson no-hit the Pack in a showdown between the RMAC's top two pitchers this season. Justine Bosio (So., Santa Barbara, Colo.), who entered the series with a RMAC-leading 9-0 record, allowed just one run on six hits to the Roadrunners, but Robinson was unhittable, striking out six ThunderWolves and falling an error shy of a perfect game.

The scoreless deadlock was shattered in the sixth inning when a two-out double by Aubree Maul with a runner on first sent the game's only run across the plate.

As much as the game one loss hurt, it didn't measure up at all to the way the ThunderWolves went down in the second game.

CSU-Pueblo broke a 1-1 game wide open in the 5th inning with a two-out rally of its own, scoring two runs on a double by Lacey Chesser (Fr., Oxnard, Calif.), taking a 3-1 lead.  The Pack then added an insurance run in the sixth when Chesser again fired an extra-base hit, scoring run on a triple and giving CSU-Pueblo a 4-1 lead.

The ThunderWolves were able to get one out away from a win as Metro State quickly got two outs as well as a runner to second on a double.  But then the bottom fell out when Metro sent one across the plate by an RBI triple, then saw the game get tied on an error at shortstop that scored two runs.  Tied at four, the game was won by the Roadrunners on a two-run walkoff home run by Tara Mickelson, handing the ThunderWolves an unlikely loss.

CSU-Pueblo will look to salvage its important series against Metro State Monday when the four-game set concludes in Denver.
