Second-straight overtime game breaks for Pack.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 14, 2010) - In what has been a commonplace occurence for the ThunderWolves men's basketball team, the Pack played another nail-biter Tuesday night, going to an overtime period for a second consecutive game and pulling out a 63-61 win over Division III foe, Colorado College.

In another slow moving, possession-minded game, the ThunderWolves and Tigers were neck-and-neck for the entire second half, with neither team opening up a lead larger than four throughout.

In a game that saw 11 lead changes, CSU-Pueblo overcame a 10-minute span in the second half without a single field goal to cling to a 49-49 tie and force an overtime period for the second consecutive night.

But the Pack was able to start the overtime period hot, hitting two free throws as Andre Martin (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) atoned for missing two would-be game-winning charities at the end of regulation.  Then, the Pack followed up with a three-pointer by Daniel Pierce (Sr., Edgewood, N.M.), part of his team-high 17 on the night, as the Pack eventually opened up a six-point advantage.

But Colorado College hit three straight three-pointers, giving them the chance to win, and were about an inch away from a dramatic victory, as a three-point attempt by Ben Foley just bounced off the iron as the Pack got away with the two-point win.

"We needed to win a game by any means necessary," Pack coach Pat Eberhart said, especially in light of its two losses last weekend, both of which were by just three points.  "Our team grew up a lot tonight."

The overtime game, just the third back-to-back overtime games in school history, hopefully will put icewater into the ThunderWolves veins for its weekend road trip to New Mexico, where it will take on Western New Mexico and a very tough New Mexico Highlands team.
