Season-high 24 turnovers dooms Pack.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 10, 2010) - After an unusual night handling the ball Friday, CSU-Pueblo's 24 turnovers helped a close game to break for Colorado Christian, losing 62-61.
In the first half, there was no reason to even fathom that the ThunderWolves should even be in the game. Hobbled by an agressive full-court press employed by the Cougars, the Pack committed 16 turnovers - usually more than they'd commit in an entire game. As a result, Christian led for nearly the entirety of the first half.
But even with the roadblocks, CSU-Pueblo never trailed by more than six, and closed the half with a flurry. The Pack embarked on a 10-0 run to end the half, ending with a bang on a three-pointer by Amanda Bartlett (Sr., Kiowa, Colo.), giving CSU-Pueblo a 30-26 lead going into the break.
But Colorado Christian resumed its press in the second half, and the Pack's shooting dipped just enough for the Cougars to take control. Colorado Christian took the lead at the 10 minute mark and never lost it, using eight second half turnovers 15-for-32 shooting in the half to hold on for the one-point win.
CSU-Pueblo still had a chance to pull it out in the final seconds, but couldn't convert as the Pack couldn't get a legitimate shot to the net in the final minute.
CSU-Pueblo falls to 3-3 and hosts Colorado Mines at Massari Arena Saturday night.
