Hot second half lifts Cougars over Pack.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 10, 2010) - A down second half shooting the ball coupled with a down night on the glass spelled a close three-point loss for CSU-Pueblo against Colorado Christian Friday night.
CSU-Pueblo could hit key free throws down the stretch when the game got tight, going only 18-for-30 from the line on the night, helping to decide a game that the ThunderWolves had the edge, at least statistically.
The Pack couldn't benefit from 29 Colorado Christian fouls, and had troubles on the glass, getting out-boarded 44-36. But a second half shooting gap, which saw CSU-Pueblo shoot just 33 percent from the field in the second half compared to 44 percent for the Cougars, helped explain the game broke for Christian.
The game was a collegiate best night for Kris Lawrie (Sr., Gardena, Calif.), who scored a career-best 28 points and was one rebound away from his first career double-double, securing nine boards. The game also served as the collegiate debut of highly-touted recruit Andre Martin (Jr., San Diego, Calif.), who got 24 minutes and scored just five points, but was strong defensively, getting three boards and getting three steals.
CSU-Pueblo will look to keep its trend of Saturday wins alive, though, when Colorado School of Mines comes to Massari Arena tomorrow.
