Pack closes match flat in three-set loss.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 16, 2010)
- Despite starting strong Saturday night vs. Regis,
CSU-Pueblo mailed it in in their final set-and-a-half, falling in
three to the Rangers.
The ThunderWolves opened up strongly in the first set,
outplaying the Rangers with a tenacious front line that forced
seven attack errors and two blocks, holding Regis to just a .034
attack percentage. The Pack's initial 14-9 lead evaporated as
the Pack committed untimely errors and lost the set 25-23 despite
beating Regis in nearly every statistical category.
The Regis comeback was something the Pack couldn't rebound from,
as untimely errors doomed every CSU-Pueblo rally, and by the time
the third set rolled around, every other Regis point seemed to come
by way of service ace and most Pack opportunities were diffused by
attack errors. CSU-Pueblo hit -.056 in the final set and were
victimized by 14 service aces in the match.
The loss puts CSU-Pueblo's playoff hopes in doubt, as the Pack
is four games behind a trio of 6-6 squads for the final playoff
spot. CSU-Pueblo will go play four matches in six nights next
week, with a Western Slope trip to Western State, Mesa State and
Fort Lewis on the docket.
