Late call dooms ThunderWolves

Colorado Christian 70, CSU-Pueblo 68

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - An apparent overtime period was not to be Saturday as a late-granted time out set up a last-second 70-68 win for Colorado Christian over the ThunderWolves.

The heart-wrenching loss put the high-flying ThunderWolves suddenly in dire straits, falling from 8-2 to start the weekend to their current mark of 8-4 and 3-2 in RMAC play.

The game seemed destined for overtime when Chris Busch (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) had his bid for a game-winner blocked as time expired.  But Colorado Christian issued a request for a timeout after the play, a request that was granted and gave the ball to the Cougars with 1.8 seconds remaining.

It was enough for Christian big man, Justin Neuhaus, to get a shot off, the eventual game-winner, that sent a stunned ThunderWolves team home with a loss.

The buzzer-beater undid a game in which the Pack shot 48 percent from the field and only turned the ball over seven times.  Both Busch and Imari Thomas (Sr., Compton, Calif.) went for 14 points.

The loss puts the Pack, leading the RMAC as recently as Thursday night, tied for third place in the Western Division.  CSU-Pueblo will return to Pueblo next week for a four-game homestand, beginning with Regis and Metro State.
