Fort Lewis 84, CSU-Pueblo 69
DURANGO, Colo. - The Pack saw a very hot night shooting the
three end up being all for naught as CSU-Pueblo fell shy of Fort
Lewis Friday night, losing 84-69.
CSU-Pueblo hung with Fort Lewis, a team that has won 15 straight
over the ThunderWolves, for much of the night, but a late cold
streak spelled a 15-point win.
The first half ended in much the same way as the second half -
CSU-Pueblo was hot, holding a 32-30 lead with five minutes
remaining before Fort Lewis caught fire. The Skyhawks closed the
half on an 8-0 run, giving Fort Lewis a 43-34 halftime lead.
The run was extended to 12-2 with the opening action of the second
half, and suddenly CSU-Pueblo was playing catch-up, trailing 47-36
a minute into the second half.
The Pack made a spirited advance, outscoring Fort Lewis 10-3 to
come within four, 50-46, at the 14-minute mark. But the Skyhawks
responded by netting the next eight points.
The pattern repeated itself throughout the remainder of the game,
the Pack getting as close as 72-69 with 4:03 remaining, but the
hot-shooting Skyhawks, which sank 62 percent of their shots, simply
kept CSU-Pueblo from taking the lead, eventuall building a 15-point
advantage.
The ThunderWolves' night was defined by its three-ball, going
12-for-26 from beyond the arc, with six different Pack players
netting at least one trey. Four ThunderWolves scored in
double-figures, led by 14 by Chris Busch (Sr.,
Oakland, Calif.) and 12 by Donell Wells (Jr.,
Denver, Colo.), seeing his first action after missing the
past four games.
CSU-Pueblo, now 10-7 overall and 5-5 in RMAC play, encounters an
early must-win against a fledgling Adams State squad Saturday
night.
