Pack falls to nationally-ranked Mesa State

No. 17 Mesa State 78, CSU-Pueblo 64

The ThunderWolves saw a second-half rally stop in its tracks Saturday against #17 Mesa State, outscored 26-12 down the stretch as the Pack fell 78-64 to the Mavericks.

The ThunderWolves began the second half on a frantic rally.  Trailing 45-36 at halftime, CSU-Pueblo went on a 16-7 run, banking on seven points from the ThunderWolves' leading scorer, Marc Williams (Sr., Seattle, Wash.), as the Pack tied the game at 52 at the 13:47 mark, momentum seemingly in the Pack's hands.

But CSU-Pueblo's shooting went ice cold as the Pack went the next 11 minutes without converting a field goal.  Meanwhile, behind RMAC's leading scorer, Mike Dominguez, who went for 30 points Saturday, Mesa State went on a 20-3 run that buried the ThunderWolves before their rally reached fruition.

Williams led the Pack with 20 points, the third time in his career he's went over 20 against the Mavericks, but it wasn't enough as only one other ThunderWolf scored in double-digits.

CSU-Pueblo, at a respectable 10-6 this season, is suddenly fighting to be in the top eight of the RMAC after falling to 5-4 in conference play.  The road doesn't get any easier as CSU-Pueblo leaves on a road trip next week, travelling to Fort Lewis and Adams State.
