CSU-Pueblo 3, Fort Lewis 2
If Friday's loss to winless Western State was the low-point, the
Pack did a 180 Saturday, earning its first win over the Skyhawks
since 2006 with a five-set victory.
The Pack squeaked out a 25-22 win in the first set before Fort
Lewis seemingly established dominance over the ThunderWolves in the
second set, winning 25-13.
Instead of rolling over, the Pack showed moxie and rallied,
dominating the Skyhawks 25-11 in the third set.
After a tight-played fourth-set, in which the Skyhawks pulled it
off with a 25-21 win, the ThunderWolves never let the Skyhawks
threaten in the fifth and deciding set.
Behind three fifth-set kills by Megan Koop (Fr.,
Littleton, Colo.) and two by Bernadette Pitre
(So., Clifton, Colo.), the Skyhawks never got closer than
two points away from the Pack as CSU-Pueblo pulled out a 15-12 win.
Three ThunderWolves got over 10 kills, with 12 by Koop, and 13
by Janae Heiser (RFr., Westminster, Colo.) and
Alea Wildman (So., Denver, Colo.).
The ThunderWolves will depart on a road trip to New Mexico next
weekend to take on New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico.
