CSU-Pueblo 38, Fort Lewis 0
The ThunderWolves posted their first shutout in 27 years
Saturday night when a strong rushing game ushered in a 38-0
trouncing of the visiting Fort Lewis Skyhawks.
The Pack piled on 278 rushing yards, its highest single game
team rushing total since the program returned in 2008, as
Jesse
Lewis (So., Loveland, Colo.) and Marquise Enoch
(Jr., Denver, Colo.) each knocked on the door of 100 yards
rushing invidually as both attained career highs. CSU-Pueblo
rushers logged a total of five touchdown runs from five different
players.
Many Lewis' 93 yards rushing came on one 54-yard jaunt to the
end zone in the first quarter, which gave the Pack a 14-0 second
quarter lead. The Pack drew first blood when quarterback
Colin
Clancy (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) ran a quarterback sneak
into the end zone following a muffed punt attempt by the Skyhawks,
one of three fumbled punts by the visiting team in the game.
While the offense hummed the defense shut the Skyhawks
down. Fort Lewis managed just 38 rushing yards on 32
attempts, and Skyhawk passers only gained 77 yards through the
air.
Clancy wasn't forced to throw much, going a conservative
13-for-21 for 90 yards. He tossed no interceptions.
The Pack's shutout marked its first since 1982, when a John
Wristen-led USC Indian team beat Western New Mexico 50-0.
The Pack's win is a good start in RMAC play, as CSU-Pueblo
shares first place in the RMAC with a 1-0 conference record and 2-1
overall. The Pack will be tied with Chadron State (2-1, 1-0
RMAC) and Nebraska-Kearney (2-1, 1-0 RMAC).
The ThunderWolves will battle Chadron State in Chadron next
Saturday at noon for the prize of first place in the conference.
