Wayne State 3, CSU-Pueblo 0
Texas Woman's 3, CSU-Pueblo 0
The season didn't start the way the Pack Volleyball team would
have preferred, as CSU-Pueblo fell in three games to Wayne State at
the UC-Colorado Springs Tournament. Later, the Pack fell 3-0
to Texas Woman's.
Wayne prevailed winning 26-24, 25-20 and 25-16. Texas Woman's
won 25-16, 27-25, 25-22.
The opening loss kept the Pack from claiming a win in their
second consecutive season opener, which would have been the first
time since 1997 that the team had done so. CSU-Pueblo started
2008 with a win over Angelo State.
Against Wayne State, the ThunderWolves were unable to secure the
first game after carrying a 22-21 lead into the latter portion
of the contest. But two unforced errors by CSU-Pueblo brought
the game to game point, 24-22. The Pack tied it up at 24
after Wayne committed two errors of its own, but Wayne eventually
prevailed after Tali Erickson closed it out with an ace.
The ThunderWolves would never get that close to a win in
the remaining games, seeing the second game tied at 12 before Wayne
pulled away. In game three, Wayne mounted an 11-3 start and
the ThunderWolves were never able to make up the advantage.
Against Texas Woman's, the Pack fell 25-16 in the first game,
but battled hard in games two and three. The Pack ran the
game to 27-25, but numerous errors foiled the Pack's rally
attempts.
The ThunderWolves were led in the Texas Woman's match by
Megan
Koop (Fr., Littleton, Colo.), who registered five
kills and a hit percentage of .308. Overall, the Pack turned
in a woeful .027 team attack percentage in the match.
CSU-Pueblo will continue at the UCCS Tournament tomorrow when it
takes on Hillsdale and host UCCS.
