Game 1: CSU-Pueblo 7, Adams
State 5
Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 15, Adams
State 7 (6 inn.)
PUEBLO, Colo. - The ThunderWolves' surge continued Wednesday as
it disposed of Adams State with a doubleheader sweep, taking over
first place in the RMAC West Division and claiming its ninth
straight win, its longest win streak in three seasons.
CSU-Pueblo upended the Grizzlies 7-5 in the first game, and
8-runned Adams State in the second game, 15-7 after six innings.
The sweep vaulted the ThunderWolves (18-10, 12-6 RMAC) to first
place in the RMAC West Division after entering the day two games
behind the Grizzlies in the standings.
Like they had all season long, CSU-Pueblo rode its bats to two
more wins, smashing three home runs and logging 26 hits over the
two games.
In game one, Kayla Dionese (Fr.,
Pueblo, Colo.) brought the big stick, breaking a 5-5 tie
in the bottom of the sixth with a booming two-run shot over the
left centerfield fence, giving the Pack a 7-5 lead and securing the
team-leading eighth win of the season for starting pitcher
Amber
Higby (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.).
In game two, the RMAC's leading hitter, Janine Tyler (Sr.,
Pueblo, Colo.) went yard in the team's first at bat,
setting the tone for a 16-hit game two performance by the
team. Even number-two hitter Kelly Purcell (Jr.,
Las Vegas, Nev.), normally a contact hitter, got in on the
act with a leadoff solo shot of her own in the 4th inning.
But it was Bo Nuanez (Jr.,
Lafayette, Colo.) who struck the biggest blow, turning in
a pair of two-run doubles, part of her four RBI on the day, the
latter of which breaking open a slim 6-4 game into a 10-4 affair in
the sixth inning.
The Pack will look to gun for the school record win streak of 11
straight this weekend when it hosts Mesa State at the Rawlings
Sports Complex with a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday at noon and
Sunday at 11 a.m.
