No. 10 West Texas A&M 74, CSU-Pueblo 70
(OT)
PUEBLO, Colo. - The ThunderWolves narrowly missed out on an
upset win of 10th-ranked West Texas A&M Saturday, falling 74-70
in overtime in a game that was decided by the smallest of margins.
The ThunderWolves led 70-69 with 1:37 remaining, but fell behind
by one when the Lady Buffs' Jodi Unruh logged a layup with 50
seconds remaining.
The ThunderWolves missed two three-pointers on the ensuing
possession, leading to a free throw by West Texas A&M's Holly
Isaacs, putting the Buffs up by two with 11 seconds
remaining. On Isaacs' second free throw, which she missed, a
rebound on the Katrina Selsor
(Fr., Glenwood Springs) seemed to give the Pack the last
possession to tie it, but she couldn't hold her balance and
fell out of bounds. The Buffs added two more free throws on
the ensuing foul, making for the 74-70 advantage.
West Texas A&M's Jamie Simmons was named Al Kaly Classic MVP
with a 17-point effort, while the ThunderWolves were led by
all-tournament selections, Rachel Espinoza
(Jr., Pueblo, Colo.), who had 20 points, and Selsor, who
logged 21 points and nine rebounds.
The ThunderWolves, now 1-1 following the 2009 Al Kaly Classic,
will travel to Metro State next week for the Metro State
Thanksgiving Classic, taking place Friday and Saturday.
