Western State 3, CSU-Pueblo 0
GUNNISON, Colo. - CSU-Pueblo was strong at times Saturday at
Western State, but the Mountaineers proved too much for the Pack as
they downed CSU-Pueblo in three sets.
Despite a very strong match by Bernadette Pitre
(So., Clifton, Colo.), who had 12 kills and no errors for
a stellar attack percentage of .545, Western State was simply to
accurate on the attack, committing just 13 errors compared to the
Pack's 22. The Mountaineers also netted seven aces on the
night.
The night began with missed opportunities in the first set, as
CSU-Pueblo had three chances to convert set point but failed - they
led 24-22, 25-24 then 26-25. But Western won the set 29-27.
Western State breezed through CSU-Pueblo in the second set,
25-18, before the Pack faltered again to convert the third-set win.
CSU-Pueblo led 24-21 in the third set, but allowed five
consecutive points to the Mountaineers to lose 26-24.
CSU-Pueblo will return home for its last weekend of the season
when it hosts New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico.
