Regis 3, CSU-Pueblo 2
CSU-Pueblo held a 12-8 lead in the fifth set against Regis at
Massari Arena Friday, but collapsed down the stretch as Regis eeked
out a 15-13 deciding set win and stole a win from the Pack.
The final set saw the ThunderWolves establishing short-term
dominance, led by their front line, which converted 16 blocks on
the night and saw Bernadette Pitre
(So., Clifton, Colo.) tie a school record for most block
assists in a five-set match with eight.
But errors ruled the day as both squads showed inaccuracies at
the net, as CSU-Pueblo hit .136 and Regis .142. It was also
errors that defined the Pack's collapse.
After taking the 12-8 fifth-set lead, three straight attack
errors by Alea Wildman (So.,
Denver, Colo.), gave Regis a 13-12 lead. The Pack
would benefit from a Regis service error before committing an error
of their own, giving Regis all they would need to secure a slim
win.
"We competed well, but we should have won," Pack coach Chris
Jonson said. "We didn't do enough to win."
The ThunderWolves' night wasn't without amazing individual
exploits. Megan Koop (Fr.,
Littleton, Colo.) led the Pack with a career-high 13 kills
and a .375 attack percentage, adding six blocks. Pitre, in
addition to her eight blocks, registered 10 kills.
CSU-Pueblo will return to the hardwood Saturday when it hosts
Metro State at the Third Annual Block Out Breast Cancer event.
